10. My Grandmother’s House
‘My Grandmother’s House’ is a beautiful poem, which has been composed by Kamala Das, who is the great poet of English and Malayalam literature. The poetess has shown the love for her grandmother through this poem.
The poet used to live at her grandmother’s house earlier, but she was living far away now. Addressing her husband, she says that there is a house far away from here, where I had found a lot of love. That lady (Grandmother), who gave love to the poet, is no more in this world.
She says that I have grown up studying in that house. She expresses grief that now there is silence in that house. Snakes are starting to roam. Darkness has fallen. He felt proud to be there. The love that he used to get there, is nowhere to be found.
Therefore, the poet says that we should not forget our family members. We should respect and honor everyone.
